WALLENBERG NEWS FLASH!!!!
8/17/2012

On Jan 17, 2013 Canada Post announced that it will be issuing a stamp to commemorate and honour Raoul Wallenberg, Righteous Among the Nations. The issue date is exactly 28 years since Canada posthumously bestowed honourary Canadian Citizenship on him. The stamp's release will conclude a series of commemmorative and educational events taking place across Canada.

This marks the first time an honourary Canadian is receiving this distinction. Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra, said "this issue is a fitting way to mark Wallenberg's courage, and his contributions to mankind, and we are proud to add him to our stamp program." Wallenberg would have turned 100 years old on Aug 4, 2012. Both Hungary and Sweden issued stamps to commemorate his 100th birthday. Other countries who have issued stamps honouring Wallenberg are: Argentina, Australia (personalized sheet), Dominica, Guyana, Hungary (x2), Israel, Sweden (x2), Liberia, and the USA.

ISRAEL FIRST DAY AND SPECIAL CANCELS UPDATED
12/11/2011

We will shortly be adding a whole group of new Judaica items - stamps and FDC. This will probably be our last major update for 2011, as at the end of Jan 2012, we are away for 5 weeks getting a much needed rest in anticipation of what 2012 will bring in the way of Israel and Judaica Philately. If you want anything in the next few weeks, please place your order now, do not wait until the end of Jan 2012, when we may not be able to fill it.

HAPPY HANUKKAH

    10/16/2011

We have just finished a fairly comprehensive update of all personalized generic stamps issued by the ISRAEL PHILATELIC SERVICES as well as a number of DEALER and ORGANIZATION commissioned sheets. We believe this is the most complete such list to date, and as we re-organize our stock, more such items will undoubtedly surface and be added to this list. Almost all items are available in EXTREMELY LIMITED QUANTITIES especially FDC, available in quantities of 1-5 of each. This field has never before been studied before in it's entirety, and so we welcome additions and corrections etc from our customers. PLEASE NOTE: There are many more PGS sheets issued by dealers and some organizations. We have chosen only to list those with topical and/or Judaica interest, and as such we are solely responsible for this content.

    MAXIMUM CARDS ADDED
    6/20/2011

We have added and completely updated a brand new special category (for Judaica Sales anyway) under our listings of Israel Philately: Stamps and Covers. Welcome to the world of.....

    MAXIMAPHILATELY

Maximaphilately is the collecting of maximium cards as they are commonly known. For those of you not familar, a maximum card (maxicard) is a postcard with a postage stamp placed on the picture side of the card where both the stamp and card images match or at the very least are closely related, and is canceled with the appropriate FD cancel or special cancel as the case may be. Maximum cards have for years been extremely popular in Europe. Israel cachet makers have produced them for years and at various times they have been popular in the USA. Once again, we find a growing interest in maxicards, and we have started creating our own. Visit our maxicard listing, where we have some older ones, and more newer ones, all with full colour images of course. Hope you enjoy them. Naturally, and as always we welcome your comments. Enjoy!!!

NEW SEARCH ENHANCEMENTS TO OUR WEBSITE
    4/24/2011

    HAPPY PASSOVER

to all our Jewish friends and customers and

    HAPPY EASTER

to all our non-Jewish friends and customers. Hopefully you are all having a super-nice holiday, however you celebrate it.

In our last newsletter we indicated we were hoping for a "fix" to all FDC added to previously updated items so that a NEW icon appears. Well we've done better than that.

Any time a new item is added, be it a stamp, FDC or whatever, a NEW icon will appear. And anytime an item that has been sold out is re-acquired and added to stock, a NEW icon will also appear. This ensures that no matter what is added to stock, old or new, it will show up as a NEW icon when you scroll through the site, or when you do a search by 30-60-90 days.

The search engines have also been upgraded throughout the site. In Israel stamps and covers, when you click on Year, the year list appears, you scroll straight to the year, and your year appears, no further search is necessary. In Judaica stamps and covers, no need to key in the country name. Just click on Country in the drop down box, and a list of countries comes on. Choose the country you want and click it, the country appears. This is extended to all categories where country is a search option. With respect to topics, same thing. Because our list of topics has almost 1000 key words, we could not show the entire list in a drop down box. So you choose Topic from the drop down box and start typing it; as you type in the letters, your topic will appear - click on it and the list appears. Of course you can still click on the full list to see it in it's entirety. This will leave everyone less prone to keyboard errors, and saving you clicking "search" every time. Any questions of course, please feel free to write to info@judaicasales.com

On April 8-10, we attended our last major show in Toronto. Our first major show was also in Toronto exactly 37 years ago when the SIP held it's International Convention in Toronto on the occasion of Israel's 25th Independence Day. With 3-4 years before that doing smaller shows in Montreal, this year marks our 40th+ year in

    "SHOW BUSINESS"

and it will end with our last show in Ottawa at month end. We may very well end up at various shows with a suitcase or two, and a small table, just to meet friends and customers and to chat for a while and reminisce. Thanks to all of you who came to visit in Toronto to say a personal goodbye - we will be in touch via e-mail and the old fashioned telephone.

Please also visit our latest newsletter for some important information when searching our site.

    NEW JUDAICA ITEMS UPLOADED
    4/4/2011

Apologies for not getting an earlier NEWSLETTER out. We have had both minor and major problems with our Mac so upgraded it last week with the latest OS X version, a new HD and more RAM Memory, and a new scanner. The scanner works 3 times as fast as our old HP, and the computer itself is twice as fast, although we're still experiencing some difficulties in compatibility with the upgraded version. I guess we will have to iron this out slowly over the next few weeks.

In any event we have uploaded some new (and old) items, including FDC for almost all Algeria items, as well as Bosnia & Herzgovina. These are all older items we never had before. A new item from Hong Kong, Serbia, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Uruguay and a few others fills the bill. Of course just do a search by new additions, and all the NEW items will come up. A reminder! FD covers for older items do NOT show up as NEW, as the record itself is not NEW. We are trying to see if this can be incorporated as well. So best to check Algeria and Bosnia to see these items. Our Toronto customers will see us this weekend at the CSDA show. All the best

    A BIT OF EVERYTHING
    2/14/2011

This is likely our last newsletter before vacation in what we hope will be sunny Florida. We will be closed between Jan 27 and Feb 23, 2011. Any orders received by noon Tuesday Jan 25 will hopefully be filled. Any orders received after this date will only be filled upon our return, in the order that they are received. Any e-Bay purchases during this period will also be processed only upon our return. We will be answering e-mails throughout this period.

We have been asked by some customers to move the "HOME" button at the bottom of the page to the top, so that they don't have to scroll down to every page to click on it. Our developer has kindly reminded me that if you click on our logo at the top of every page, you will automatically go back to the home page.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS
    1/3/2011

2011 is now upon us. Hopefully, it will be a much better year than 2010 was, with all its trials, tribulations, natural disasters, and terrorist attacks in many places of the world. And also hopefully, it will be a healthy year for all of us and financially rewarding as well.

We are planning, as previously indicated, to upload thousands of items in the coming months. Our Judaica stamps uploads are now COMPLETE. Everything currently in stock is now on our site except for some stragglers which may be physically hidden from view, and when found will also be uploaded. All new items received (new items, restocked items and old items which we never had before) will be uploaded within a week of receipt, keeping you up to date. Consequently it is important that you bookmark our site and do searches by 30-60-90 day increments to see what's new since your last visit. Of course you are always welcome to browse our entire Judaica stock as we are also continually updating descriptions, corrections, some price changes etc on an ongoing basis.

The biggest news for us as well as our customers whom we've met at shows during the past 37+ years, is that we are retiring from the show circuit in April/May 2011. Bluntly, bum knees and a bad back make the shlepping difficult. More on that in the coming months. Also, we will be away on holidays from Jan 26 until Feb 23 - hopefully basking in the sun in Florida, and visiting my son and his family in Cincinnati. Stay connected with our Newsletter which will ALWAYS keep you informed as to what's new

12/30/2010 - STATUS of CURRENT UPDATES to our SITE

We are happy to say that our ENTIRE stock of Judaica stamps is now up on our site, with images. A few stragglers when found will follow. All new issues will be posted when received. Other categories listed below have been updated as follows including images where available

  • JUDAICA STAMPS - COMPLETED
  • JUDAICA FIRST DAY COVERS - Albania to Armenia, Hungary
  • JUDAICA CACHETS and CANCELATIONS - Hungary
  • NEW ICON AND FIRST DAY COVERS
    12/12/2010

We have been asked by some customers to clarify two things. What exactly does the NEW icon mean appearing next to an item, and what constitutes a FIRST DAY COVER.

NEW icon: The NEW icon will appear when a) a new stamp release now in stock has been added to our database; b) an old item which we never had before but which has been newly acquired has been added to our database; and c) items which were in our database but were "lost" because of a bug in our old system, were added once again. It also has to be noted that if we acquire FDCs at the same time as a stamp, then both are seen to be NEW. If, however, a FDC is acquired at a later date, and the 30-60-90 day time frame (see our search engine) for NEW has expired, then the FDCs entered will not have a NEW icon added. Consequently, if you do collect FDCs, you should check those items you're looking for from time to time.

FIRST DAY COVER: What constitutes a FDC? A FIRST DAY COVER is an envelope, card or other piece of paper that has an authorized post office cancel applied on the First Day of Issue. It has absolutely nothing to do with the cachet or image on the cover. Any media may be used to produce a FIRST DAY COVER. It can be printed en masse, produced by a home printer, individually hand drawn, and can have items applied to the cover before or after the issue date, etc etc. Some FDC collectors are purists and will collect only those FDCs produced and sold by the Postal Authority issuing the stamp. Others prefer having a photo or image which complement either the cancel, stamp or both. Many countries, such as those in the Caribbean, some in Africa, Monaco, Austria to name a few have generic cachets or images. Some countries such as Germany, the USA and others do not officially produce FIRST DAY COVERS. We were asked some time ago by collectors why we don't produce our own FIRST DAY COVERS, and so that is what we have started to do. Working with the Postal Authorities in Canada, Israel, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal, USA and more on the way, we have so far produced FIRST DAY COVERS in very limited quantities, from as low as 6 per item to as many as 25. Many items are already sold out. Some covers have cachets/photos affixed to the cover, while other covers are printed on the highest quality digital printers in full colour and individually hand folded. Over time we will be affixing photos and images to older covers which have either no cachets or generic cachets to make them more appealing to the Judaica collector as well as the general topical collector who is also our customer.

Please let us have your comments on the matter.

MORE UPDATES TO JUDAICA STAMPS AND COVERS
    12/12/2010

12/10/2010 - STATUS of CURRENT UPDATES to our SITE

The following countries in the categories listed below have all been updated including images where available

  • JUDAICA STAMPS - Abkhazia to Maldives
  • JUDAICA FIRST DAY COVERS - Albania to Armenia, Hungary
  • JUDAICA CACHETS and CANCELATIONS - Hungary
  • We will also be updating old images produced when our first website went live in 1998, with newer and clearer images, using of course newer scan technology. We had initially intended to first update all stamps and then covers; however, we will now add covers as well as we continually update our Judaica stamps and covers stock.

BOOKMARK THIS NEWSLETTER TO BE WELL INFORMED OF OUR PLANS

Next week we will also try to update our entire stock of Israel sheets, sheetlets, tete-beche sheets, booklets, etc on FDCs (the Israel Philatelic Services does not produce these covers) produced by the various FDC and cachet makers in Israel. We try to carry all the different ones made, many of which are extremely eye-appealing, and produced in quantities as low as 150 of each. Watch for it.

SHALOM AND WELCOME TO OUR NEW WEBSITE
    11/28/2010

Over two years in the making, and after a myriad of delays for far too many reasons which we'll pass on at this time, our new JUDAICA SALES website is here! A new home page, new pages throughout the site, a more pleasing layout, a new logo, new features, and a state of the art shopping cart is now at the beck and call of our Israel and Judaica customers.

AND IT DOES NOT END HERE!!

We have contracted the services of a topnotch website developer in Winnipeg and we will be working with him to provide more features and enhancements over the coming months, to say nothing of getting rid of the bugs that we know are still there, especially in some cat/item #'s throughout the site, and bugs that you our customers, will advise us exist.

Over the next months, on an almost daily basis, we will be updating the site with new items, as well as items in our stock that have never before been offered on our website. Until now, these items were only sold at stamp shows throughout the country and abroad. Since our decision to stop doing shows effective April 2011 (again, more on that in a future newsletter), everything we have will be offered on our site.

As of today - 11/28/2010 - we have updated all Judaica stamps, souvenir sheets and sheetlets including images where available straight through from Abkhazia to Fiji. After our entire Judaica stamp inventory is updated we will then do all Judaica covers. And we will in the interim also update much of our Israel material. Plans are to upload images for all Israel stamps, First Day Covers, maximum cards, etc currently in stock, since many topical collectors look to the cachets and cancels on cover for topical content.
